Last year, 2002, was the “Year of the Horse” in Chinese astrology, and Valentine’s day and their New Year were practically coinciding. Tricia Roy took the bull by the horns, or the horse by the reins, so to speak, and planned a sumptious Peking Duck dinner. Everyone had their own personalized place setting, with their horoscope, and by the way the room was decorated you would have felt you were in China.
The dinner was very well attended, and the chance to try new foods could not be resisted.
The menu was : A 6 COURSE CHINESE MEAL-wontons with duck sauce, coconut lemongrass soup, summer rolls with dipping sauce , peking duck, which is a special New Years dish made only in restaurants by chefs especially for this occasion , pad thai, the ever popular fried noodle dish; black bean vegies with shrimps and steamed rice.
With a feast like this before us, it becomes a rare opportunity in Atikokan to get foods that are completely different. We have very good restaurants in Atikokan, and we all go to them either for solid fare, or special occasions, but the events at the Centre give us a chance to expose our pallets to specialty adventures.

Roy Lusignan (or DeeBoo), one of our top local musicians, set the mood and created a delightful ambience . His classical guitar scores were beautifully chosen and worked perfectly for the evening. When you hear him play, it becomes clear the difference between live and taped music.
