Upcoming Events at the Atikoikan Intergenerational Centre

Activities at the Art Centre

By Serge Ettinger – Youth Intern

As summer is over the Atikokan Intergenerational Centre for Arts & Alternatives is gearing up for another eventful fall and winter season.  The very popular Black and White Photography workshop, instructed by Joe Marohnic, is currently in its second week, and the tentative start date for the next workshop is November 15th.   If anyone has a desire to learn the art of Bl & Wh photography and darkroom developing, or if you need to brush up on your skills, we encourage you to phone the Art Centre at 597-8738 and put your name on the waiting list for the next session.  Participants that take the course a second time, exclaim that it’s even better then the first. Once they’ve mastered the basics in the first session, the photos they produce in the second are definitely better, more artistic, more creative, more satisfying, and more fun to make.

For those of you with a greater interest in physical activities, Cardio-kickboxing classes started last week at the Art Centre.  The Cardio-kickboxing classes are being instructed by Arthur Collins, and if you would like more information please contact Arthur at 597-4507.  Traditional Hatha Yoga sessions are also continually being held at the Art Centre Sunday and Wednesday evenings from 7 – 9 pm, and for more information please contact the Art Centre or Bob Bigwood at 597-2252.  If pottery is your forte, our pottery program, instructed by Morreen Cox, will commence in early October.  The Strategic Gamerz Club is currently meeting at the Centre Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 6:00pm, and any persons with an interest in fantasy role playing card games are encouraged to show up.  The Art Centre is also looking for 1 or 2 volunteers, 18 or over who would be interested in supervising, and taking part, in the Strategic Gamerz activities.  Please stay tuned with the Atikokan Progress for more upcoming activities and events this fall.
